The Step Back in Time project

The Step Back in Time project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots program and delivered in partnership by Fullcircle nw CIC, Chadderton District Youth Team, and Chadderton Historical Society.

Our project aimed to engage young people with the rich history of Chadderton over the past 100 years, focusing on youth, education/work, and family life. By exploring how local heritage had shaped their lives today, the young people created a short film and an exhibition to share their findings with the community.

As part of this initiative, we hosted a memorable tea party on April 13th, 2015. Forty-three elderly residents joined us for an afternoon of fun, conversation, and shared memories. The young people took the lead, serving tea and cake, hosting games, and conducting interviews to capture the unique stories of these seniors.

This event was a resounding success, fostering intergenerational connections and preserving local heritage. The young people gained valuable insights into Chadderton’s history while developing essential skills like planning, communication, and interviewing.

“What a successful afternoon we had yesterday, it was brilliant. I am overwhelmed with the depth of gratitude from those who came to Monday’s afternoon event, my phone was ringing all evening with people saying thank you for a wonderful afternoon, they so enjoyed it. Please thank the young people for all their hard work it was greatly appreciated and the effect it had will be long remembered”.
